Anarchyologist #89
I joined the team in June 2022. I was adopted in Lima, Peru, South America, and for fun, I grew up exploring various woods and state parks off of Rt. 23 in Central and Northern Illinois. By bike or on foot, I was always outside thinking about past people and how they may have lived on the landscape. Today, I am a professional archaeologist working in cultural resource and heritage management in Iowa City! Roller derby was always a dream of mine. I played roller hockey on an all boys team on blades briefly as a kid, but I felt underutilized and quit. I held on to my skills, though, and was always a surprise when we’d play floor hockey in gym class. Roller derby’s biggest draw for me was the empowerment, resiliency, and community it offered. You fall, then you get back up with the support of your community and vise versa. Always working on my skills and physical fitness, I look forward to getting to my first bout as soon as possible!
