Tina Squelcher #813

I grew up in rural Missouri and recently moved to Iowa City after living in Seattle for 15 years. While in Seattle I gained: appreciation for moss, an MFA in creative writing, several years of nonprofit experience, and dozens of stories about riding public transportation. My favorite story is the one about the lady with her pet pigeon on her head. I also gained a job as a support manager in the ed tech industry that allows me to work from home and do things like move across the country.

Maybe it’s because I am approaching middle age, but I am turning back to some of my long lost hobbies (like roller skating) or experiences I missed out on (like team sports). I had been thinking about trying roller derby for a long time—for the challenge and for the community—and am glad to have joined OCCRD!

Likes: roadside attractions, gaudy carpets in public spaces, old sitcoms

Dislikes: corporate jargon, crowded elevators, goat cheese

Favorite song to skate to: “Take On Me” by a-ha
